Panamanian Rebel Gian Varela and 3 x Latin Grammy Award-Winning Artist Maffio Join Forces For Latin Tech House Heater “Gua Gua.” Out Now on Municipal Recordings

Even though it has been a minute since we checked in, the world of Brazillian house music continues to flourish. On our latest visit to Municipal Recordings, we are checking out “Gua Gua”, the latest from Gian Varela and Maffio. An internationally-acclaimed producer hailing from Panama, Gian Varela proudly represents his Panama heritage even if he was molded by the US. Being directly in the birthplace of reggaeton in Panama, Gian Varela was able to create his own unique sound thanks to the culture clash of his two loves. Gian has made quite a name for himself on the Latin and dance circuits, including viral collaborations with SechFeid, & El Chombo as well as releases on Spinnin’ RecordsArmada MusicMixmash Records, and Revealed Recordings. Gaining the chance to tour across America early on in his career, Gian was able to generate an energetic live persona and embrace it while showcasing his skills for audiences all across South America.

Maffio has been a great friend to me. We met through an old friend, mentor, and one of the founders of reggaeton/plena – El Chombo. ‘Gua Gua’ is our first track ever since Maffio asked me to remix his “Elma Maria” a while back, which was released through Sony Music. We really just focused on having fun in the studio, and this became a banger for dance floors looking for that already iconic Latin drive. It also has an Afro/tech-house swing to it, which is something I’ll be focused on with my upcoming releases. This is also what convinced me to sign with Municipal Recordings and work on the launch of my own record label in the future – Monarka Records as I want to continue pushing the boundaries.” – Gian Varela

Gian Varela’s latest single “Gua Gua,” in collaboration with 3-time Latin Grammy winner Maffio, is a vibrant dancefloor anthem that blends tech house with Latin and Afro house influences. The track’s driving beat, tribal drums, and dynamic melodies create an electrifying atmosphere, enhanced by Spanish vocals that evoke the feeling of dancing in a jungle until sunrise. Released on Municipal Recordings, where Varela has recently signed a long-term deal, “Gua Gua” is a testament to his growing influence in the dance music scene.

With a year already marked by notable releases and performances, Varela is on the rise, and rumors suggest he’s planning to launch his own label in 2025. This new partnership with Municipal Recordings signals more exciting music to come as he continues to push the boundaries of Latin-influenced electronic music.
