While we love the wide range of labels that we are able to work alongside, you have to be one of the top dogs for to showcase you in this much bright and consistent light. On our latest visit over to Westwood we are checking out 10 Years of Westwood Recordings, the first step in the label’s anniversary celebration. Westwood is a music label and event organization that has collaborated with over 200 artists across different genres in the past decade. They have been involved in various notable projects and achievements, including partnering with the Shambhala Music Festival since 2019, launching Westwood Sounds in collaboration with Splice, and receiving recognition such as the Canadian Independent Music Association’s Road Gold certification. Westwood has also worked with Monstercat for their annual Compound Event and had one of their artists, So Sus, receive a JUNO nomination. They have organized successful events in Vancouver, including annual Halloween events and “Funk The Halls” shows. Westwood has had their music featured in syncs for popular TV shows, films, and commercials. Looking ahead, they plan to expand their partnerships with Live Nation, curate stage takeovers at music festivals, release new albums from artists like Chali 2na and Cut Chemist and The Funk Hunters, launch a music distribution service, and continue managing Midnight Agency, a booking agency representing over 40 artists.

Vancouver-based Westwood Recordings is celebrating its 10th anniversary with a month-long celebration of special releases. To kick off the festivities, they have released 10 Years of Westwood Recordings, an album that perfectly represents the label’s unique and diverse sound. The album features tracks from various artists on the label, including The Funk Hunters, Defunk, Moontricks, K Theory, Stickybuds, Kotek, LIINKS, and SugarBeats. The album opens with “Freak” by The Funk Hunters and Defunk, delivering gritty basslines, sharp synths, and catchy distorted vocals. The journey continues with Moontricks’ “Nebulizer,” a midtempo track infused with funky swing influences. K Theory’s “Outlaws” combines hip-hop vocals with ethereal bass music melodies, creating a captivating and otherworldly atmosphere. Stickybuds’ contribution, “Family Man,” showcases funky and organic electronica, featuring the soulful vocals of Glen David Andrews. Kotek takes the album in a different direction with “Dance With Me,” a drum & bass track that delivers high-energy beats and infectious rhythms. The album concludes with LIINKS’ “One Thing About Me,” a balladesque track that showcases their captivating vocals and introspective lyrics. Finally, SugarBeats’ “Wild Cat” brings the album to a powerful and headbanging conclusion, delivering dark and grimy electronic sounds.
With a decade of impressive accomplishments under their belt, Westwood Recordings is poised for an even brighter future.
