Neo-Funk Band Sports Drops Final Tease “The Look” + New Album Out Feb. 12th!
You know what the funny thing is about perspective? It always changes and you can never get a full version, always stuck with a free trial. On this week’s dive into the music world we are checking out “The Look”, the latest single from the talented duo Sports. Behind the moniker are two childhood friends, Cale Chronister and Christian Theriot, who decided to grace their local music scene with the sounds of Sports back in 2015. Both born in Tulsa, OK, this talented duo had been making music in some capacity since the age of 13, while finally settling on the Sports moniker as a nod to their parents’ love of sports. While the duo would make a critical splash with their debut project Naked All The Time, it wasn’t until 2018’s first full album Everyone’s Invited that they snagged major attention. Staying true to their independent production, Sports has now racked up over 100 million plays online as well as a third album Get A Good Look Pt. 1 out on Feb 12th.
“”The Look” was inspired by a comment a stranger made to me while I was out eating lunch. He interrupted me and asked who my agent was, assuming that I was a model. And then wanted to help represent me. I just kind of laughed because it seemed like such an LA cliche. But he was serious and told me “You’ve got the look of the moment.” – Sports
Purpose and perspective are core elements for the Sports mantra and this next album is a prime example of their idealogy. Both previous singles, “Baby Baby” and “Never Know”, explore aspects of this idea but gently step aside for “The Look” to take its turn under the spotlight. Sports takes their latest single and lets their musical style run wild, almost overloading the track on their addictive blend of indie rock and sorely-underused funk. The band’s production creates this unique allure of letting our troubles melt away and indulging in a funk-filled adventure under the sun Their sound is warm and enticing, like an addictive blend of Bowie, the angst of The Clash, and chill vibes of surf rock. While they may not have the most SEO-friendly moniker, we need to keep Sports in our rotation, even if it is just for a quick break.
