Mustard Service Reflect on Love, Loss and Mortality on New Album ‘Paradise’

Mustard Service is an indie rock band from Miami that likes to call their colorful, feel-good sound “zest pop.” Blending everything from surf rock and funk to jazz, bossa nova, and Latin rhythms, their music is as sunny and eclectic as the city they come from. Made up of Marco Rivero Ochoa on vocals and guitar, Leo Cattani on keys, and Adam Perez on drums, the trio brings their Cuban, Uruguayan, Argentinian, and Mexican roots to life with catchy melodies, Spanish lyrics, and grooves that make you want to move.

They’ve already built a loyal following, opening for Bombay Bicycle Club and headlining sold-out shows at LA’s El Rey Theatre. With millions of streams and a reputation for putting on fun, high-energy live shows, Mustard Service is gearing up for a big year. New music and a nationwide tour are on the way—and it feels like they’re just getting started.

Their Latin heritage remains a defining part of Mustard Service’s sound, blending Spanish lyrics, tropical rhythms, and breezy indie rock into a style that feels both vibrant and distinctive. Rooted in Miami’s diverse musical culture, the band effortlessly combines Latin influences with funk, surf rock, psychedelia, and indie pop, creating songs that balance infectious grooves with thoughtful songwriting.

Produced by acclaimed producer Chad Copelin (Broncho, Wildorado), Paradise is Mustard Service’s most personal and introspective record to date. Written during a period in which frontman Marco Rivero experienced the loss of his grandparents, his cat, and several close friends, the album explores mortality, grief, love, regret, and the importance of appreciating life while it is happening. Despite its philosophical themes, Paradise maintains the band’s signature warmth, pairing infectious grooves, colourful instrumentation, Latin influences, and breezy melodies with lyrics that encourage listeners to step away from autopilot and consider what truly matters.

Across the album, Mustard Service explore those ideas through vivid storytelling, humour, and unexpected perspectives. Spanish-language single “Aerolineas Mostaza” examines unresolved love and second chances through the reunion of two former lovers, while “Who Knew Your Body” uses dark satire to explore romantic obsession and unhealthy dependence. Emotional centrepiece “Psalm 2” takes an even more existential approach, imagining a dying soldier who experiences a profound sense of peace and interconnectedness in his final moments. Together, the songs make Paradise a meditation on life’s impermanence that ultimately focuses not on death, but on connection, compassion, and making the most of the time we have.
