Multi-Platinum Hitmaker Topic Introduces a New Indietronic Sound with New Single “Lucky Ones” with carteblanche. Out Now on Universal Music
Topic has become one of electronic music’s biggest global names, earning billions of streams and numerous gold, platinum, and diamond certifications along the way. The German-Croatian DJ and producer broke through internationally with his 2019 hit “Breaking Me” featuring A7S, which has since surpassed 6 billion streams worldwide. He continued that momentum with releases like “I Adore You” alongside HUGEL and Daecolm, which reached #1 on Beatport’s Afro House chart and Shazam’s Global Dance chart. In 2024, Topic also launched WILD KID, his own label and party series, giving him a new platform to explore different sounds and push his creative vision forward.
carteblanche is the new indie dance project from London-based, GRAMMY-nominated artists Joshua Grimmett and Tancrede Rouff, who bring plenty of experience from across the electronic music world. Grimmett is known as a member of Goodboys, with credits including “Piece Of Your Heart” with MEDUZA and “Lose Control” with MEDUZA and Becky Hill, while Rouff has worked with artists including ODESZA, Portugal. The Man, and Zerb. The pair launched carteblanche in 2025 with “The City,” a collaboration with Alex Wann and Notre Dame, and have continued developing their sound throughout 2026, with the first taste of their upcoming EP already out and more new music on the way.
“‘Lucky Ones‘ feels a little like going back to my roots. A few years ago, we used to call my sound ‘Melancholic Dance Music‘ – emotional and sometimes melancholic lyrics, but always with a driving beat. After exploring a lot of Afro-influenced sounds over the last few years, I’ve recently found myself really drawn to indie pop. We actually wrote ‘Lucky Ones‘ almost like a song for a band first, without thinking about the dance production at all. I only turned it into a dance record afterwards. I think that combination of where I came from and where my sound has evolved to feels very much like where I’m at right now.” – Topic
“We met up with Topic and A7S at our studio in London where we had set aside a couple of days to write songs together and try out new vibes. “Lucky Ones” was actually the second song we wrote together. In the song we were trying to capture that feeling of no pressure escaping with your friends or someone that you love in the summer and just being content. We were just about to go on holiday ourselves which I think was probably influencing our mood. We’ve been big fans of Topic and also A7S for many years and we’re excited about this collaboration” – carteblanche
Fresh off a run of releases including “TIK TAK” with SARRA, his rework of Fatboy Slim’s “Right Here, Right Now,” “Sorry Papi” with **Becky G,” and “Missing You” with Shimza and A7S, Topic switches things up with “Lucky Ones,” a new collaboration with carteblanche. Originally written as a band song before becoming a dance record, the track blends Topic’s signature feel-good dance-pop with a warmer indietronic sound, pairing bright synths and an easy summer hook with the indie-pop songwriting still sitting underneath. The result has a widescreen, dreamy quality while capturing the simple feeling of escaping with friends or someone you love, with nowhere to be and nothing to prove.
“Lucky Ones” also brings Topic back toward the emotional songwriting that helped define his earlier music. After several years exploring Afro-influenced and Latin-facing club sounds, the track reconnects emotive, slightly melancholic songwriting with a driving electronic beat, while carteblanche push the production in a warmer and more left-of-centre direction.
