Live Bass Maestros Ravenscoon and Smoakland Join Forces for Bass-Heavy Single “Never Heard Of Ya”
Sometimes when you’re busy yet thriving on the live circuit, you find a single that was born in the live world but could easily become an official banger. On our latest visit to Wakaan we are checking out “Never Heard Of Ya”, the latest from Ravenscoon and Smoakland. Born in Georgia but now based in San Francisco, CA, Paul Conversano’s love of electronic music continues to flourish with whatever genre he happens to dive into that day. While he has become known for combining elements of hip-hop, punk rock, and death metal through the medium of experimental bass, no genre stone goes unturned once Ravenscoon steps into the booth. While this unique blend can be found in his original works, his highly popular mixtape series allows him to flow in and out of genres with ease. Already making a statement this early on in his career, Ravenscoon has no plans of slowing down and we take the industry by force.
Despite both Ravenscoon and Smoakland being hot on the live festival circuit this year, both producers found time to step into their studios and give us this banger of a single. “Never Heard Of Ya” kicks off with a foreboding yet enticing tonal intro, entertaining listeners’ possible misconceptions of the track while simultaneously luring them in to uncover its true nature. The track then immediately slams on the gas and ups the tempo, migrating to the familiar heavy bass and dubstep-inspired territory that both Ravenscoon and Smoakland are familiar with. Allowing the track’s full-bodied heavyweight basslines, fine-tuned percussion, and dancefloor drum and bass segments to take center stage, “Never Heard Of Ya” evolves into a bass-heavy collab that could easily satisfy regulars within the space.
