“Hyper-Punk” Pop Star Sophie Powers Releases Chaotic Debut EP “Red in Revenge”
Alright, alright, we’ve been teasing this project enough…time to unleash to the masses. ON our latest peek into the indie world we are checking out Red in Revenge, the debut EP of Sophie Powers. At a mere seventeen years old and with only a handful of singles under her belt, you could say that Powers is still a bit new to the scene. However, choosing to embrace the world of alt-rock music allows her to be unfiltered, ready to preach the message of the younger generation. Audiences have already taken a liking to her message, as her debut single “Lonely Army” has already racked up over 150 thousand streams online. While she gives off this punk rock maven persona, Powers already has the range to flip the script and be raw and vulnerable. She may be early on in her career, but she’s already catching the eye of anyone who is watching the alt-rock scene today.
“After turning 16, I quickly realized the world was not the place I was told would be. It’s not easy to make your dreams come true – it’s not even easy to dream – which made me angry. Red In Revenge represents the angry, depressive and anxious state I was in while realizing this, as well as the state I was in while struggling to find confidence and place in society as a teenage girl, pursuing my dream, living alone in another country, far from home/the norm.” – Sophie Powers
Powers is one of those artists that surprise us every time she slides into our inbox, as we have a different mindset going into each one of her releases. Now that Red in Revenge has finally been unveiled to the masses, Powers can truly let her “hyper-punk” style run wild. Combining elements of modern punk and hyper pop, Powers debuts her chaotic sound that feels aggressive yet energetic and playful at the same time. Over the course of this seven-track collection, we’re able to see Powers truly embrace the fact that her chaotic approach to making music is opening new doors for her as a professional musician. Powers is quickly becoming a prominent force in the punk-infused scene, we won’t be surprised if she becomes a voice for the chaotic generation very soon. The real question though is… what’s next Powers?
