Fast Five: Are They Even Stealing Cars Anymore?

Alright, here is the first film my roommates made me watch in our random convoluted mess of a film marathon. Believe everyone, the shitty films are almost over

FAST FIVE

Fast Five is an interesting film when it comes to the Fast and the Furious franchise. Fast Five marks the end of all of the street racing that the Fast and the Furious franchise was known for and now the rob banks from mobsters.

Here is a quick plot synopsis of Fast Five:

“Former cop Brian O’Conner partners with ex-con Dom Toretto on the opposite side of the law. Since Brian and Mia Toretto broke Dom out of custody, they’ve blown across many borders to elude authorities. Now backed into a corner in Rio de Janeiro, they must pull one last job in order to gain their freedom. As they assemble their elite team of top racers, the unlikely allies know their only shot of getting out for good means confronting the corrupt businessman who wants them dead. But he’s not the only one on their tail. Hard-nosed federal agent Luke Hobbs never misses his target. When he is assigned to track down Dom and Brian, he and his strike team launch an all-out assault to capture them. But as his men tear through Brazil, Hobbs learns he can’t separate the good guys from the bad. Now, he must rely on his instincts to corner his prey… before someone else runs them down first.”

Fast Five was disappointing yet still somewhat enjoyable for the fifth installment of the Fast and the Furious franchise. It was pretty legit to see all of the main/unique supporting characters all in the same film, especially Han. Han dies in Fast and Furious: Tokyo Drift, but I know Tokyo Drift is the last in the whole franchise. Their story line kind of got fucked up after they rebooted it with a more criminal twist.

Although I found plenty of awesome things about Fast Five, I still didn’t enjoy this film that much. What happened to all of the street racing and stealing cars that the franchise was known for? I mean, they steal a vault straight out of a bank and drive through the streets of Rio! That is not realistic whatsoever! I call bullshit! Brian O Connor and Dominic Toretto steal cars and knock up women, not stealing whole vaults from foreign banks and fighting Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson.

PROS:

• All of the main/supporting characters of the franchise.
• The Rock v Vin Diesel
• Over the top action scenes.

CONS:

• No Street Racing.
• Bank Heists.
• Shaky Cam during action sequences.

SCORE: 6.5 / 10
