You had us hooked right from the overture boys, what a way to splash into the deep end. Taking our first stop off at Monstercat, we have a brand new Monstercat debut from RIOT with their new LP Dogma Resistance and an additional comic book! Composed of the producing duo Tom Davidson and David Magid, RIOT has created an epic cinematic style that entrances their audience within this bass music world. RIOT’s notability has increased magnificently over the years, finding homes at major labels like Aoki’s Dim Mak, Insomniac Records, and now Monstercat. While we know RIOT from their 2018 collaboration with SLANDER on “You Don’t Know Me”, their groundbreaker is the 2017 Kayzo collab “Wake Up” that racked up over 25 million streams so far.
However, while this LP is fantastic, the comic book addition is thematically amazing. Both the LP and comic detail the story of Raymond Colt as well as his descendants throughout time. Colt and his sidekick uncover a hidden evil entity that takes over the world in the future. Will his descendants be able to take back the future from pure evil?

“‘Dogma Resistance’ is an album we have been working on for well over a year and a half now. The production from start to finish was one of the toughest challenges as producers that we have faced. Creating a seamless storyline in electronic music can sometimes be tough, we wanted to give the fans something more, something they would want to listen from start to finish on repeat over and over again. Allowing the fan to create their own vision and storyline for the music, becoming imaginative and creative, which as a musician, is one of the best feelings a fan can give you. Thank you so much to everyone who has followed this journey. It means a lot to us!” – RIOT
We have to say that while we don’t casually dabble in the bass music world, we have fallen in love with Dogma Resistance. Every single one of the ten tracks steamrolls the plot forward, telling the Raymond Colt adventure with plenty of vigor and adrenaline. From a production angle, Dogma Resistance oozes the signature RIOT sound to appease the resident fans while still providing a playground to experiment. Different genres influence each track, while it may just be by an exotic instrumental (“Desert to Desert”) or by the momentum and tempo (“Disorder”), each song is an adrenaline rush. Dogma Resistance is definitely RIOT’s best project yet, if not our favorite for 2019.
