Cassius Wolf & Das Abs Reawaken Liverpool’s Post-Punk Spirit on New Single “Tell Me”
Cassius Wolf & Das Abs is the musical collaboration between Cassius Wolf and Don Watson, two friends who met at school in Liverpool at age 11 and later became immersed in the city’s influential late-1970s music scene. While working at the iconic venue Eric’s Club, they were surrounded by the emerging post-punk movement and artists like Echo & the Bunnymen, Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark, and The Teardrop Explodes. Inspired by that environment, they officially formed the band in 1978, shaping a sound that blended punk energy with melodic experimentation and a strong DIY ethos.
Decades later, the duo is revisiting their early recordings, restoring and remixing archival material to introduce their work to a new generation. Their return is also tied to the idea of “PCore,” a movement they describe as celebrating artists who continue pursuing creativity later in life, challenging the notion that artistic momentum has an expiration date. In that sense, Cassius Wolf & Das Abs represents both a rediscovery of Liverpool’s underground past and a statement about creative longevity and evolving artistic identity.
The band’s latest single, “Tell Me,” offers another glimpse into their upcoming album, An Afternoon in Bedlam, arriving May 29, 2026. Drawing heavily from 80s-inspired pop and post-punk, the track pairs infectious melodies and moody synth textures with themes of confusion, longing, and emotional tension. Its nostalgic atmosphere recalls the emotional weight of cult classics from the era while still feeling fresh and immediate, capturing the restless uncertainty that comes with youth, fractured relationships, and unresolved emotions.
Together, these recent releases showcase the emotional depth and expansive sound of An Afternoon in Bedlam. Built from restored cassette recordings and reimagined through modern production, the album explores both personal and societal tensions through a blend of dark romanticism and experimental edge. Influenced by artists like The Cure, Depeche Mode, Can, and The Velvet Underground, the project balances nostalgia with a sense of urgency, creating a sound that feels both timeless and emotionally alive.
