CASANDRA is a Miami-born, Los Angeles-based artist whose music exists at the intersection of vulnerability, escapism, and self-discovery. With ISLA TRANQUILITA, she takes another step forward in that evolution, crafting a project that feels both diaristic and cinematic. Following the release of her acclaimed six-track EP ISLA TRANQUILITA, Los Angeles-based artist CASANDRA returns with “HOURGLASS,” the latest preview of her forthcoming 13-track ISLA TRANQUILITA album, arriving July 24. Expanding upon the intimate world introduced on the EP, the album serves as a deeply personal tribute to her late great-aunt Teresa, a Cuban émigré who comforted CASANDRA throughout her childhood in Miami with the phrase “tranquilita,” encouraging her to find peace amid life’s uncertainties. Years later, CASANDRA transforms that sentiment into a lush sonic sanctuary that honors her aunt’s memory while offering listeners a refuge of their own.
Blending alt-pop, R&B, and electronic influences, ISLA TRANQUILITA embraces themes of joy, longing, grief, sensuality, and healing through songs written in both English and Spanish. “HOURGLASS” acts as a hidden lagoon within the project’s dreamlike landscape, pairing soft guitars, dreamy percussion, and shimmering synths with lyrics that contemplate love, time, and eternity. The single captures the tranquil heart of the album while further showcasing CASANDRA’s ability to create immersive, emotionally resonant worlds.
