Brilliant Experimentalist Somatoast Teases Upcoming World Album With Downtempo “Creation is Creation”

With the expanded scope that world and bass music offers, the doors are wide open for creative producers to truly push their boundaries. On our latest visit over to Gravitas Recordings we are checking out “Creation Is Creation” the lead single for the upcoming album of the same name from Somatoast. The concept of Somatoast was conceived by talented producer Mark Rubin after years of experimentation in the ambient and world genres. A multi-instrumentalist by trade, Rubin started his musical career by learning drums as a young child…merely sparking his love for learning instruments. Rubin would go on to learn piano, guitar, bass, and a number of percussive instruments, hitting the ground running in high school when he began writing songs and producing for local bands. Rubin continued his experimentation through music while he studied digital media in college, where Somatoast was born. Somatoast blossomed thanks to Austin’s live music scene, and some of his earliest performances can be found at local co-op parties and electronic music events.

“The soil that nurtures the flowers. The space that inspires your craft. The mood you set for your lover. The places that foster our children. The force that expands…”

Producers, especially on the more experimental side of the spectrum, can truly find inspiration for their music anywhere…just what you make of it is up to you. Inspired by everything from world music and natural sounds to circus and psychedelic performances, Somatoast carefully crafted “Creation is Creation” to be a philosophical intrigue into the concept of creation.  Toeing the line between elegant world bass music and nu-jazz fusion, the single is an otherworldly introspective of what you can actually use to make music and find your creative inspiration. Somatoast made it clear that he wanted to utilize natural sound and warp them into a technical, almost mechanical amalgamation, but keep the original beauty of the element itself. For example, seeds pods make shakers and icicles are a percussive ensemble, just waiting to be utilized to make superb downtempo beats. Any fan of the more ambient and experimental side of electronic music needs to experience “Creation is Creation” now, before the full album drops and it overwhelms us with its unique sound.
