Ant Thomaz Channels Family, Resilience and Belief on Deeply Personal Album ‘Gaia’
Ant Thomaz is a Glasgow-based singer-songwriter whose music reflects a life shaped by multiple cultures, drawing from his family roots in southern Louisiana and his creative home in Scotland. Blending folk, soul, pop, zydeco, and rock, his sound is instinctive and emotionally grounded, built on strong melodies, rhythm, and warmth. Writing songs since the age of twelve, Thomaz draws inspiration from personal experience, heritage, and the small, human moments of everyday life, creating music that feels intimate yet widely relatable.
From busking on the streets of Glasgow to performing on major festival stages, Thomaz has built a career rooted in connection, authenticity, and community. He has supported artists such as Happy Mondays and Sheku Kanneh-Mason, earned BBC airplay including BBC 6 Music, and appeared at festivals like Celtic Connections, Belladrum, and the Edinburgh Fringe. With “Good Times Roll” ushering in a new chapter and his debut solo album on the way, Thomaz is focused on making music that transcends borders and labels, inviting listeners to feel present, hopeful, and fully alive.
Ant Thomaz’s new album Gaia is his most personal work yet, named after his daughter and inspired by their experience raising a child with a disability. Rather than focusing on limitations, Thomaz and his wife cultivated a home rich in creativity, language, and imagination, teaching Gaia Makaton, British Sign Language, English, and Gaelic, while integrating music, storytelling, and mindfulness into daily life. The album reflects this philosophy, exploring themes of resilience, self-belief, and perspective. Thomaz draws on a lesson from his youth about an eagle soaring higher to rise above negativity—a guiding principle that shapes the album’s message: not just to survive, but to flourish.
Musically, Gaia blends soulful storytelling with cinematic arrangements, balancing introspection with warmth and playfulness. Tracks like “Believe” highlight father-daughter collaboration, while “Drawn To You” and “Dancing Out of Place” explore love, vulnerability, and self-expression, and “Is Your Mind For Sale?” offers Thomaz’s dry humor on modern distractions. The focus track, “The Night Is Young,” emphasizes acceptance and living fully in the present. Across the album, Thomaz pairs deeply personal experiences with universal themes, inviting listeners to slow down, reflect, and embrace the strength that comes from imagination, empathy, and believing in oneself and others, solidifying his reputation as a sincere and heartfelt storyteller.
