Anime Club: [C]
Hello everybody! For this week’s anime club we have the economical outlook of [C].
CREATED BY: Kenji Nakamura
NO. OF EPISODES: 11
GENRE: Science Fiction
The Japanese government was rescued from the brink of financial collapse by the Sovereign Wealth Fund. For its citizens, however, life has not improved and unemployment, crime, suicide, and despair are rampant. Kimimaro, raised by his maternal aunt after the disappearance of his father and the death of his mother, is a scholarship student whose only dream is to live a stable, ordinary life. One day he meets a man who offers him a large sum of money if he will allow his “future” to be held as collateral. From then on his fate is radically altered as he’s drawn into a mysterious realm known as the Financial District, where he must compete in weekly tournaments called “deals” in order to keep his money and avoid losing his future.
Coming recommended from one of my anime otaku friends, I had high hopes for [C]. While I wouldn’t say I was disappointed, I wasn’t blown away either. From an economical standpoint, [C] was fantastic. I mean, really amazing. I was interested in every single beat of the series, every time the characters entered into the Financial District, I was hooked. Once they left though, I could care less.
Unfortunately, I am a major fan of character driven series, and [C] has plenty of characters that I just don’t give two shits about. The main character, Kimimaro, I can definitely relate to, but I don’t necessarily care about him. He is only interesting enough to keep me attached to the series, and nothing more. Its a damn shame. Then again though, I guess he did serve his purpose. I also did not like Kimimaro’s asset. While their relationship was interesting to see, it still didn’t interest me in the slightest.
- Economical background.
- Financial District.
- Disappointing characters.
- Uninteresting character relationships.
SCORE:6.5 / 10
