Toronto Indie Pop Artist ARK IDENTITY Exorcises Childhood Nightmares on Grungy New Single “Deluxe Nightmare”
ARK IDENTITY is the dream pop solo project of Toronto’s Noah Mroueh, a singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist known for creating immersive soundscapes praised for their “addictively good” melodies. His music blends the ethereal qualities of dream pop with the expansive elements of psychedelia, offering listeners a reflective and exploratory auditory experience.
Toronto dream-pop artist ARK IDENTITY (Noah Mroueh) returns with Deluxe Nightmare, a six-track EP that balances chaos and clarity with a surreal, euphoric energy. Recorded largely in a garage studio in Costa Mesa with producer Philippe André, the project thrives on its raw, DIY approach—live one-take drums and guitars, rough vocal takes, and even shouted section cues make the music feel immediate and alive. At the center is the grungy, distorted title track, inspired by Noah’s childhood recurring nightmare of flying monkeys breaking through his window. With fuzzy guitars, repetition, and claustrophobic textures, the song captures the disorienting, loop-like feeling of a bad dream you can’t wake from.
Across the EP, ARK IDENTITY blends dream-pop, psychedelic pop, and alternative rock into a cohesive yet adventurous sound, supported by collaborators including Ron Lopata, Good Grief, Ben MacLean, Braden Sauder, and Giordan Postorino. Noah describes the project as a personal exploration, leaning into discomfort and anxiety instead of avoiding it, which opened up new creative possibilities. Following his debut ANNDALE EP, Deluxe Nightmare continues his journey into immersive, all-analog soundscapes—euphoric yet haunting, raw yet intimate, offering listeners a strange comfort: even when fear takes hold, release is always on the other side.
