Synth-Pop Duo Paperwhite Return With Reveal Long-Awaited EP ‘Reach’

Paperwhite, the New York-based brother-sister duo, first emerged over a decade ago with their shimmering, synth-driven sound, quickly gaining recognition from outlets like Billboard, Vice, and Buzzfeed. They became favorites of the indie blog scene—twice named Hype Machine’s Most Blogged Artist—and earned spots on numerous Spotify editorial playlists. Known for their glossy production and emotionally rich songwriting, they’ve shared stages with the likes of Oh Wonder, SOFI TUKKER, and Great Good Fine Ok, establishing themselves as a compelling force in the indie pop landscape.

After a brief hiatus, the duo returned in late 2024, ushering in a more mature and expansive sonic chapter. Their first EP in nine years stays true to their dreamy roots while layering in organic textures and cinematic depth. Centered on themes of self-discovery, resilience, and quiet wonder, the new music blends nostalgia with growth, offering listeners a sound that feels both familiar and refreshingly evolved.

“The ‘Reach’ EP is a reflection of where we’ve been and where we’re going—a collection of songs shaped by longing, nostalgia, and the quiet magic of memory. We made it for anyone who’s ever felt lost in a dream or found comfort in a feeling they couldn’t quite name. We hope it brings a sense of wonder and a little more light.”

Synth-pop duo Paperwhite—siblings Katie and Ben Marshall—return with Reach, a five-track EP that marks their first major release in nearly a decade. Staying true to the dreamy, synth-laced sound that first garnered them attention, the duo expands their sonic palette with cinematic strings and organic textures. Central to the project is the single “Looking Back,” a song born during the pandemic and reimagined years later with the help of renowned cellist and composer Philip Sheppard, whose emotive arrangements elevate its themes of reflection and renewal.

Throughout Reach, Paperwhite explore self-discovery, perseverance, and quiet wonder. Shimmering melodies and atmospheric production underscore a sense of growth and emotional depth, capturing both nostalgia and newfound clarity. The EP stands as a graceful evolution of their sound—elegant and heartfelt, offering a glimpse into how the duo has matured while staying rooted in the lush, synth-pop dreamscape they helped define.
