Songwriter Nataliya Nikitenko Steps Into the Spotlight in Debut Single “Oil & Water”
When songwriters who succeed behind the scenes step into their own spotlight, they will either soar high into the sky or crash and burn. On our latest dive into the indie world we have “Oil & Water”, the newest single from singer/songwriter Nataliya Nikitenko. Born in Ukraine but raised in Australia, Nikitenko found her first introduction to art and music at a very young age. In her early years, she was a national ballroom dance champion, performing all around the country and gaining plenty of notoriety. During her teens she even landed regular spots on Australia’s “Trapped” and “Castaway” TV shows, prompting a move to Los Angeles in pursuant of an acting career. Exploring all kinds of creative outlets, Nikitenko found her passion in songwriting and has penned tracks for the likes of Little Mix, Anne-Marie, & A Boogie wit da Hoodie just to name a few.

However, after writing hit bangers for those who enlisted her services, Nikitenko put pen to paper under her own act in a way to expand her horizons. Starting back at the basics, Nikitenko began to envision what her own act would look and sound like leading her to focus on vocals and piano. The result of this experiment, “Oil & Water”, showcases the myriad amount of skills that Nikitenko has in possession. A beautifully cinematic ballad, the track offers a moment in the spotlight for Nikitenko to explore her strengths and pain through her life experiences. While this may be her first official single, we can tell that it was definitely time for Nikitenko to step out from behind the curtain onto a stage of her own.
