Singer Gwyn Love Recruits Producer La+ch For Bouncy Dance Pop Banger “Sh*t I Like”

With the major flux of electropop artists rising out of the weeds, you have to find the right method to blast past the rest. On our latest visit over to 604 Records we are checking out “Sh*t I Like”, the latest single from Gwyn Love. Hailing from small-town Oklahoma, Gwyn Love began honing her talents early on with first picking up a cello at age 5. By age 11, Gwyn Love had already written her first song and was quickly on her way to discovering her own path down the music avenue. In the decade since, Love has tweaked her sound to become uniquely hers, a blend of pop-electronica that we wouldn’t expect to find in small-town Oklahoma. Gwyn found a solid amount of success after the release of her debut EP At First Blush, with the EP’s lead single being picked up by popular playlists including Spotify’s “It’s A Bop”, Apple Music’s “New Music Daily” and Amazon’s “Fresh Pop” and “Brand New Music”.

I was in Vancouver, my first time out of the United States, all by myself, recording music. I felt extremely stressed because I didn’t feel I was performing as I knew I could in the session that day. I went to my airbnb and sat on the couch and started thinking of things I could do to relax and take some of the pressure off so I would feel more like myself and perform better the next day. I smoked a joint then wrote this lil’diddy about the sh*t I like. It’s a reminder to me that no matter how stressed I get, there are skills I have learned that help me not go overboard with stressing. It’s okay to sit back and let yourself unwind every so often, it’s actually very much needed. I really needed this song when I wrote it. We all have to be reminded sometimes that it’s okay to take a break from everything and just do shit that you enjoy and makes you feel in tune with yourself. My boi La+ch’s production on this song really brought it all together and made it the “dance in your room by yourself” song that I really wanted it to be.” – Gwyn Love

Let’s face it, there is not a single person on this planet that can outrun stress and need a quick reminder. The first follow-up single after releasing her debut EP At First Blush back in Nov. 2020, “Sh*t I Like” is Gwyn’s own reminder of that feeling of being burnt out. Hell, the track was actually written after smoking a joint in her AirBnB after her first trip out of the United States in a moment of not feeling she was producing her best work. Gwyn’s vocal performance tiptoes the line between raw and playful, adding to the fragile yet important message/tone of the single. In order to give the single a more dance-focused sound, she joined forces with producer La+ch to elevate the single’s production. “Sh*t I Like” might be a bit of a departure from the Gwyn Love sound we are used to, but we welcome this dance-focused variant.
