Seun Kuti & Egypt 80 Share New Single “Problems” Featuring Kabaka Pyramid
Seun Kuti has spent nearly three decades carrying forward the legacy of his father, Afrobeat pioneer Fela Kuti, while firmly establishing himself as one of the genre’s most important modern voices. Taking over leadership of Egypt 80 following Fela’s passing in 1997, Seun has combined the band’s signature blend of infectious rhythms, powerful horn arrangements, and politically charged lyrics with his own perspective on social justice, inequality, and Pan-Africanism. Beyond music, he has remained an outspoken activist, participating in movements like #OccupyNigeria and #EndSARS, while reviving his father’s Movement of the People political party to continue advocating for change in Nigeria.
Across acclaimed releases including Many Things, From Africa with Fury: Rise, A Long Way Beginning, and the Grammy-nominated Black Times, Seun has expanded Afrobeat’s global reach through collaborations with artists such as Carlos Santana, Black Thought, Janelle Monáe, Damian Marley, Sampa The Great, Talib Kweli, and Vic Mensa. His 2024 album Heavier Yet (Lays The Crownless Head), executive produced by Lenny Kravitz, marked a defining moment in his career, pairing bold political commentary with an evolved sound. The 2025 Deluxe Edition further broadened the album’s impact with new remixes and collaborations, reinforcing Seun Kuti’s status as one of contemporary music’s most fearless artists and advocates for cultural pride, resistance, and African unity.
Seun Kuti & Egypt 80 return with “Problems,” a powerful new collaboration featuring Jamaican reggae artist Kabaka Pyramid that further explores the deep musical and political connection between Afrobeat and reggae. Following collaborations with Damian Marley and Alborosie, Seun continues building a bridge between Africa and the Caribbean, pairing Egypt 80’s signature horn-driven grooves with Kabaka Pyramid’s conscious lyricism. The result is an energetic anthem that balances infectious rhythms with a message encouraging listeners to reflect on the social and political issues shaping the world today.
Although only now receiving an official release, “Problems” has already built a reputation on the road. Seun performed the track throughout a remarkable 13-month world tour spanning more than 130 concerts, where its explosive live energy quickly made it a fan favorite and a permanent fixture in Egypt 80’s setlist. The overwhelming audience response has given the song significant momentum, making its studio release the arrival of a track that has already proven itself on stages around the globe.
