Saint Avangeline Shares Ethereal Madonna Cover of “Frozen”

This year, Atlanta-based indie-pop artist Saint Avangeline has been turning heads with singles like “Limerence,” “Carolina Creature,” and “Rain Dance,” earning praise from Rolling Stone, FLOOD Magazine, Noir, and Live Nation’s Ones to Watch. At just 23, she pours her deepest emotions into her music, calling the process “sucking the poison out of my soul.” Her songs drift between dreamy pop, dark wave, and a sound that’s entirely her own, capturing the journey from heartbreak and confusion to the clarity and joy of true love. With a voice that’s both powerful and ethereal, Saint Avangeline transforms personal pain into something mesmerizing and relatable.

Her background—Japanese on her mother’s side and Syrian, with family roots going back nearly 700 years—has shaped the way she approaches music. Yet despite her talent, she spent most of her childhood hiding her voice, only singing alone in Japanese. It wasn’t until 2020 that she began sharing music online, starting with a cover of Lana Del Rey’s “Million Dollar Man” reimagined with a queer perspective. The response was immediate, and within a year, she wrote her first original song, “Lilith,” a deeply personal track about surviving sexual assault. That song set the tone for her career: music as a way to heal, to process, and to speak honestly from the heart.

Since then, Saint Avangeline has built a devoted fanbase. Her debut album, Gardener of Eden (2022), racked up over 67 million streams, with “Lilith” alone hitting 56 million on Spotify. In 2023, her cover of Lana Del Rey’s unreleased track, “Every Girl Gets Her Wish,” added over 13 million streams. Across all her work, she’s become known not just for her stunning voice, but for her fearless storytelling—turning vulnerability into art that connects deeply with listeners around the world.

A classic from a legend! I think this is one of Madonna’s most gorgeous pieces, and I wanted to pay tribute to her and her monumental impact on the music industry. She has influenced so many artists of this generation, including myself. I had no idea that she would revisit this album only a few weeks after I recorded this! We shot the video in May 2025 in the Mojave Desert in the same location Madonna shot her original music video back in 1998!”

Saint Avangeline, with 79.63 million total Spotify streams, 2.3 million monthly listeners, and 5.35 billion TikTok streams, has released a stunning reimagining of Madonna’s 1998 hit “Frozen.” The single serves as both a tribute to the pop icon and a showcase of Saint Avangeline’s ethereal, atmospheric style. Accompanying the track is a visually striking music video filmed in the Mojave Desert—the same location where Madonna shot the original video—creating a cinematic homage that blends nostalgia with Saint Avangeline’s own haunting aesthetic. With her expressive vocals and dreamlike production, Saint Avangeline transforms “Frozen” into a spellbinding experience that balances reverence for the original with her signature style, reinforcing her status as one of today’s most compelling voices in alt-pop.
