Rising Star Tadashi Blends Hyperpop and Hip-hop in New EP ‘hedonism.’
Tadashi, the musical alias of 21-year-old Japanese-American artist Dieter Frank, is a rising hyperpop talent blending genres and cultures to create a distinct, versatile sound. Based in Buffalo, NY—a hub for underground hip-hop—his music spans melodic hip-hop, acoustic pop, and glitchy hyperpop, drawing praise for its introspective lyrics and bilingual storytelling in Japanese and English. Having played piano since the age of four, Tadashi’s classical foundation informs his genre-defying production, which took off during his college years. By 2023, his music gained international radio play in the UK and USA, earning accolades for its emotional depth and relatability.
In 2024, Tadashi brought his artistry to the global stage, performing his first live shows in Tokyo. These performances underscored his commitment to bridging his Japanese heritage and American upbringing, while championing Asian American representation in music. With his raw vocals, deeply personal lyrics, and immersive live sets, Tadashi is rapidly emerging as a boundary-pushing voice in the hyperpop movement, poised to leave a lasting mark on the international music scene.
“hedonism is a collection of tracks I have been working on for over a year now. I wanted to wait for the right moment to drop them until I realized I just needed to get these out there because I like them too much not to release them. I chose the name hedonism because that’s how I live my life and how I approach making music. It’s one of my biggest flaws but I can never delay any sort of gratification. I do things that are bad for myself long term but feel good in the moment and that is something I explore a lot in the tracks, especially “crash” and “sick of you”. – tadashi
