Multi-instrumentalist JVNA Releases Self-Sung Cinematic Melodic Bass EP “Violet Genesis,” Building on Her Signature Sound. Out Now
Born in Los Angeles to Taiwanese parents, JVNA is a singer, songwriter, producer, and multi-instrumentalist whose music blends cinematic electronic production, pop songwriting, and deeply personal storytelling. Classically trained on piano from the age of six, she later studied film and game scoring at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music, shaping the sweeping, emotional sound that defines her work. Inspired by anime, gaming, and fantasy, she first gained attention through viral remixes and built a loyal community on Twitch, where fans helped crowdfund the video for “I’m With You,” a self-directed tribute to her late father.
Her 2021 debut album, Hope In Chaos, explored grief, resilience, and healing, while 2023’s Play With You pushed her sound into a darker, more commanding space centered on feminine empowerment and reclaiming personal strength. Across both projects, JVNA turns vulnerability into something expansive, creating a dreamlike world where emotional honesty, cinematic atmosphere, and dance-floor energy can exist side by side.
“This EP is me going back to where it all started. When it was still just for the love of it, before all the different eras. There was a sound that was just purely me – hopeful, ethereal, nostalgic. Heavy sound design, melodic bass, cinematic, anime OST and video game score inspired. That’s where JVNA began, and that’s where this album lives. Over the years I’ve explored so many different sides of myself as an artist and I genuinely loved all of it. Every era taught me something, every experiment made me grow. And now I’m at this place where I wanted to pay homage to my original sound but with everything I’ve gained since then. Better songwriting, more mature vocals, stronger production, and a level of intention I didn’t have before. This EP is a revisit into my original sound but with the new skills and techniques I’ve ‘equipped’ to remaster it. It’s cinematic, JRPG video game score inspired, with themes about overcoming hardships and love, and a retelling of everything that made me fall in love with music when I first began this project. At its core this album is deeply nostalgic – not in a looking-backward way, but in a this-is-who-I-am way. It’s me honoring where I started from while showing everything I’ve become.” – JVNA
JVNA returns to her musical roots with Violet Genesis, a five-track EP that revisits the melodic, cinematic bass sound that first defined her artistry. Inspired by the anime and role-playing game soundtracks that shaped her early work, the project blends ethereal atmospheres, emotionally charged melodies, and powerful electronic production with the refined songwriting and mature vocals she has developed over the years. Exploring themes of love, resilience, and overcoming adversity, the EP captures the emotional depth and immersive storytelling that have become hallmarks of her music. September’s single, “Gravity,” helped introduce the project’s direction, delivering a heartfelt message about supporting someone through their darkest moments and helping them rediscover hope.
Written, produced, performed, and independently released entirely by JVNA, Violet Genesis represents a full-circle moment in her artistic journey. After years of experimenting with different sounds and creative identities, she reconnects with the music that first inspired her, bringing newfound confidence and intention to every element. Rather than simply revisiting the past, the EP celebrates her evolution while proving that sometimes moving forward means rediscovering what made you fall in love with music in the first place.
