Mexican American Artist and Activist Alma Grace Releases New EP FRIDA!

Boy have we been waiting for this to finally release in full and on a perfect day to fill our rotation.  On our latest dive into the indie music world we are checking out FRIDA, the latest EP from Alma Grace. Born and raised in New York City, Grace is a twenty-year-old activist, artist, and actress that is determined to spread her message through any medium possible. A Mexican-American herself, Grace’s multiracial background allows her to explore multiple influences and create her own sound that fits her message. Take the love of Selena, the pain into art of Lauryn Hill, and the wit/sass of Shania Twain, you meet Alma Grace. She attended her first protest when she was 13, and she continues to fight against the deportation of immigrants on a community-based level as well as in the U.S. Senate. As a creative, Grace has performed on stage on Broadway and the Lincoln Center as well as being featured in the Tribeca Film Festival in films alongside the likes of Tobey Maguire and Ed Zwick.

In contrast to classmates and casting directors who criticized me for not being ‘white enough,’ Frida made me feel beautiful for my bushy eyebrows and black hair. When I listen to these songs, I hear my transformation from an angsty teen to a semi-independent young adult. t’s such a special project to me, and I knew that it had to be my artist introduction to the world” – Alma Grace

When a major influential artist like Frida Kahlo has this much of an impact on your music and creative journey, you have to make sure you nail your ode just right. Clearly Alma Grace knows exactly what she is doing, as this latest FRIDA EP hits all of the right notes for a Spanish/English lyrical blend from a talented singer/songwriter. FRIDA may only consist of four tracks, with two new tracks as well as Alma’s two previously released singles “Girl Fight” and “Aventura”, each song was carefully tweaked by Alma to show a new facet of her style yet keeping with the overall theme. Easily switching from bouncy indie pop and powerful ballads, Alma shows a true mastery of blending English and Spanish languages while not letting either step on each other’s toes. If we can say anything, we think that Frida would be proud of what Alma Grace created and how she continues to express herself as a musician.
