JUNO and Polaris Nominated Singer-Songwriter Terra Lightfoot Shares Melancholic, Country-Tinged Cover of Treble Charger’s “Red” Featuring Bill Priddle

Seasoned rocker Terra Lightfoot has earned a reputation as a tireless live performer, with tours spanning eight countries across four continents and support slots for artists such as Bruce Cockburn, Blue Rodeo, Matt Andersen, The Posies, The Sheepdogs, and Willie Nelson. She also conceived and co-headlined The Longest Road Show, an all-female touring revue, showcasing her curatorial vision and commitment to celebrating women in music. Her extensive touring history underscores both her stamina and her versatility as a performer.

Despite her stage-honed energy, Lightfoot feels a strong pull toward home, which she finds in Ontario’s Haliburton Highlands. That sense of place shapes her intimate new album, Home Front, offering a stark contrast to the anthemic alt-pop of 2017’s New Mistakes and 2023’s Healing Power. With stripped-down arrangements and reflective songwriting, the album captures a quieter, more personal side of Lightfoot, highlighting her ability to convey warmth, vulnerability, and nuanced storytelling beyond the live stage.

“I’ve loved this song since I was a kid, and became friends with Bill Priddle when we were both playing in the band Don Vail, We’ve kept in touch and he came out to our show in Sault Ste. Marie last summer. I had the idea to cover this song with him then, and after we sang it together, it made so much sense to cut this one for this record.”

Acclaimed JUNO and Polaris Prize-nominated Canadian singer-songwriter Terra Lightfoot has released a haunting new single: a cover of “Red”, originally by Canadian alt-rock band Treble Charger. Reimagined through a melancholic folk-rock lens, Lightfoot’s version highlights her emotive vocals and introspective tone, blending warm, rootsy instrumentation with nods to classic country influences. The track transforms the original alt-rock energy into a reflective, intimate experience, showcasing Lightfoot’s ability to honor the song while making it distinctly her own.

The single also features Bill Priddle, Treble Charger’s original songwriter, with whom Lightfoot shares a musical history through their time in the band Don Vail. The collaboration arose organically after a live performance in Priddle’s hometown, resulting in a rendition that is both nostalgic and freshly resonant. By weaving together her folk sensibilities with Priddle’s original vision, Lightfoot delivers a deeply emotional and thoughtful reinterpretation that bridges her musical roots with her contemporary artistry.

Terra Lightfoot’s cover of “Red” features soft, country-tinged instrumentation developed in collaboration with her co-producer and husband, Jon Auer, who suggested the genre shift and contributed drums from a makeshift living room studio. Annie Lindsay adds tender fiddle lines, giving the track a warm, Dolly Parton-inspired charm that complements Lightfoot’s emotive vocals and introspective delivery. The arrangement balances intimacy with subtle rhythmic drive, highlighting the song’s reflective and heartfelt qualities.

The cover acts as a natural extension of Lightfoot’s recent album, Healing Power, which explored personal growth through pop-rock anthems and folk-rooted storytelling. In reinterpreting Treble Charger’s original, Lightfoot continues this exploration, pairing vulnerability with sonic warmth. The result is a deeply emotional and thoughtful rendition that honors the original while showcasing Lightfoot’s signature blend of folk, country, and roots-inspired sensibilities.
