The fact that we haven’t fully absorbed and appreciated “car music” is something that needs to change. On our latest visit to Spinnin’ Records we are checking out INFERNO / Ratchets, the latest drop from HEDEGAARD. HEDEGAARD, a prominent figure in Nordic music, gained widespread recognition since his 2011 remix of Dr. Dre’s “The Next Episode.” Over the past decade, he has produced major hits such as “Happy Home” and “Twerk It Like Miley,” accumulating an astonishing 1.4 billion streams globally. His success extends to China, where “NYC BABY” and its localized version “BEIJING BABY” secured top spots on the QQ Music EDM Chart. The subsequent singles, “BORED” and “The Ones We Lost,” continued his streak, solidifying his status as the hottest EDM artist in China.
HEDEGAARD’s influence reached new heights on the Chinese social media platform Douyin, where his 8-minute remix challenge video with influencer Sander Kole garnered a remarkable 71 million views and 2 million likes. HEDEGAARD has unveiled a compelling EP, “INFERNO / Ratchets,” featuring two tracks that showcase the evolution of his signature “car music” sound. The release includes the brand-new “INFERNO” and the previously successful “Ratchets,” drawing on the style he pioneered in 2011 with his remix of Dr. Dre’s “The Next Episode.” The EP explores a fusion of urban and EDM elements at around 100 BPM, a genre-defying approach that garnered massive attention with over 24 million views on HEDEGAARD’s YouTube channel and extensive use in video memes accumulating over 200 million views. “INFERNO” kicks off with ominous beats, robotic vocals, and bone-shaking basslines, creating a distinct video game-esque vibe, while “Ratchets” takes a club-oriented turn with rap-inspired vocals and rhythmic beats. Accompanying the musical journey is a visually stunning 3D, AI-fueled show that HEDEGAARD successfully tested at a recent gig in Bali, further solidifying his reputation as an innovative force in the industry. The EP is released under HEDEGAARD’s label, OneHundred, operating within the influential Spinnin’ Records framework.
