“‘Ruins’’ is a reflection the past, the choices we didn’t make and the ‘what ifs’’that still linger. We wanted to capture the ache of those missed opportunities and unspoken words, and to reflect on our youth and the ruins we all carry with us. The rest of the album also explores how we shape our lives on the foundations of those ruins and their enduring impact on who we become.”

Indie-pop duo Eighty Ninety has announced the release of their self-titled debut album on December 15th, with the unveiling of the album’s opening track, “Ruins.” This track, following a string of previously released singles, encapsulates the duo’s signature style, blending raw emotion, textured indie-pop production, and Abner’s haunting vocals. “Ruins” serves as a reflection on the past, exploring the emotions tied to unmade choices and lingering “what ifs.” The duo aims to capture the ache of missed opportunities and unspoken words, setting the thematic tone for the entire album, which delves into how individuals shape their lives against the backdrop of past experiences, or “ruins,” and the lasting impact these moments have on personal growth.

Eighty Ninety, consisting of Brooklyn-based brothers Abner and Harper James, describes their musical style as “808s and telecasters,” a fusion of intimate storytelling, sticky melodies, and minimalist pop production. The album promises to be a compelling journey through the complexities of life, love, and the enduring marks left by time, establishing Eighty Ninety as a noteworthy presence in the indie-pop genre. As the debut album release approaches, fans can anticipate a unique blend of acoustic and electronic elements, coupled with rich narratives that resonate on both a sensory and emotional level.
