Dutch Multi-Talented Producer Wiwek Writes Music for Hauntingly Beautiful Film “Electric Child,” Scoring Full-Length Movie in Its Entirety for The First Time

Once you’re in a space like producing electronic music, you realize just how versatile your skillset truly is. On our latest peek in the EDM world we are looking in on Wiwek, who just revealed his latest project…scoring for the film “Electric Child.” Wiwek is more than just a DJ; he’s a pioneering force in the electronic music landscape, carving out his own niche with the genre-defying sound of “jungle terror.” Through wild blends of electronic elements, tribal percussion, and raw energy, Wiwek crafts immersive sonic experiences that push boundaries and ignite dance floors. Collaborations with industry giants like Skrillex, the establishment of Maha Vana Records as a haven for creative expression, and the release of his debut album “Cycles” underscore his commitment to innovation. With projects like “The Free and Rebellious” EP, which served as the soundtrack to a cinematic journey in Bangkok, Wiwek’s influence transcends music, solidifying his status as a true rebel with a cause, poised to shape the future of electronic music in 2024 and beyond.

“Director Simon Jaquemet has used my dance songs for various scenes in his previous films. For his new one, he got the idea to use my music and asked me to score the whole movie. It was during a time when I was actually thinking of writing music for films, so it came at the right moment. When I first got the script, I got hooked and started making ideas immediately. Over the years, it developed with the first images and, lastly, the writing part of the whole movie. The movie has various scenes of background radio music playing, which I made the songs for, as well as one big scene with a rave in the forest. For that particular scene, I used a couple of songs that I also included in my “Jungle Terror vol. 5″ EP, but for the most part, the idea was to make soundscapes and ambient themes. Simon does not use a lot of score music in his movies, and this one mostly uses noisy soundscapes. It was a big challenge cause I am used to working alone (with one mind), and now I had to support the vision of the director. I really loved doing it and getting this experience. It gave me a whole new dimension in the producing world as I know it. Dance music is my number one passion, but to be able to expand my creativity to this world now is something I am very grateful for.” – Wiwek

Wiwek, renowned for his energetic “jungle terror” sound, takes a bold step into film scoring with his latest project, composing the entire score for the movie “Electric Child” by Swiss filmmaker Simon Jaquemet. Premiering at the Locarno Film Festival, the film delves into the themes of AI and human emotions of loss and love, with Wiwek’s music playing a crucial role in enhancing the narrative. His score blends hopeful, nostalgic, and hauntingly beautiful soundscapes, showcasing a new dimension of his artistry beyond the dancefloor.

This project marks a significant shift from Wiwek’s recent sinister tracks like “Remedy” and “Rush,” revealing his versatility as a composer. With “Electric Child,” Wiwek proves his ability to create deeply emotional and complex music, signaling a promising new chapter in his career as a multifaceted artist.
