Artist Devan Discovers Her Own Sound, Newest Drop “We’re All Gonna Die Anyway”
While our childhood dreams of what we wanted to be when we grew up change for many of us, but there are always a few who know what they want to do and don’t stray from the path. Wading back into the world of indie music we are checking out “We’re All Gonna Die Anyway” the latest single from the upcoming artist Devan. Discovering her passion for music at the fresh age of 10, Devan tried jumpstarting a music career with a homemade demo for the iconic Olympic Studio. Devan may be finally striking out on her own, but her voice may sound familiar if you are familiar with the band Wild Rivers. Devan co-founded the collective and has been an active performer of the group for the last six years and assisted the group in snagging over 140 million global streams. While Devan continues to hone her sound, she joined forces with fellow alt-pop musician Corey Harper to help craft her debut.
“I’ve been a fan of Corey’s music for a long time – he’s got one of my favourite voices. The song was originally written on piano, but when we were in the studio, Corey suggested a guitar part that everyone loved so much it ended up becoming the backbone for the song.” – Devan
While Devan may have those years as a performer underneath her belt, taking on a “solo” career is an entirely different beast on its own. Trying to discover her own sound and style away from the Wild Rivers, Devan combines elements from her influences such as Joni Mitchell, Neil Young, with a sprinkle of Adele and Florence + The Machine. “We’re All Gonna Die Anyway” dabbles in the familiar territory of love and relationships, but this time with a much more apocalyptic approach. Completely suitable for this disastrous year of 2020, yet spreads a message of inclusivity and breaking down social barriers. This may be our first introduction to Devan, but we can say that we are fully on board with Devan’s style.
