Alien Pop, Glitched Timelines & Mundane Absurdism: iNKOGNiiTO’s Futuristic Odyssey ‘iNKOMPLETE TERRiTORY’
iNKOGNiiTO (they/them) is a North London-based experimental/electronic artist creating what they call Alternative Futuristic music — a genre-blurring blend of alien pop, ambient, and alternative soundscapes. At the heart of their work is a rich sci-fi narrative centered on a memory-less, glitching nomad-spy who shifts across timelines, each glitch becoming a metaphor for personal transformation and fractured identity. Their immersive storytelling is infused with mundane absurdism, capturing the surreal moments of everyday life when reality feels off-script. This theme informs not only their lyrics but their experimental song structures and striking visuals, crafted in collaboration with their sister and creative partner, IAlwaysAlien.
Entirely self-managed and self-styled, iNKOGNiiTO has carved out a distinct artistic world from the ground up. They’ve performed at key London venues like The Lower Third, Notting Hill Arts Club, and The Star in Shoreditch, and were featured at HMV Vault in 2023. With their single “Space Tellz” surpassing 10,000 streams, iNKOGNiiTO continues to build momentum — offering listeners a futuristic, genre-defying experience that challenges perception and redefines what it means to create from the margins.
iNKOGNiiTO’s new EP, iNKOMPLETE TERRiTORY, is a fragmented yet cohesive exploration of identity, alienation, and emotional drift. Originating from the magenta-hued world of their single “Satellites ??,” the project expands into a larger narrative about strandedness and the paradox of finding clarity through disorientation. Structured like an emotional spiral, the EP resists traditional form in favor of non-linear storytelling — each track reflecting a state of unresolved transformation. As iNKOGNiiTO describes it, “The further we drift, the more we gain ground,” highlighting the project’s central tension between chaos and self-discovery.
Musically, the EP pulls from a diverse range of influences — from space-age synths and 80s drums to Afro-Surrealism, cult cinema, and nostalgic TV oddities. With collaborators ANN, Jericho, Dynasty!, and Zylyny, iNKOGNiiTO builds a sound that feels both alien and intimate. Standout track “Chemical X” captures the project’s essence: a three-part meditation on mortality and erasure, merging minimalist atmospheres with glitchy, machine-like textures. The result is a cinematic, emotionally charged experience that blurs the boundaries between personal narrative and speculative fiction.
