Mourning Coffee Confronts Love, Loss, and Mortality on his New Single “One Last Time”

Emerging goth-folk artist Mourning Coffee opens a tender, introspective chapter with his new single “One Last Time.” The song leans into themes of love, loss, and identity, circling around one unsettling but deeply human question: Who are we when the people or moments that shaped us are gone? Its origins add to its emotional weight—Mourning Coffee wrote the track in a quiet cemetery in Warwick, NY, a setting that naturally soaked into both the mood of the song and its accompanying music video.

Musically, the song walks a delicate line between movement and melancholy. A steady, upbeat rhythm keeps things pulsing forward, while a haunting piano melody wraps the whole track in a cinematic, bittersweet glow. That contrast mirrors the heart of the song: trying to find light in the heaviness of grief. Lyrically, Mourning Coffee focuses on the fleeting nature of life and love, repeating the line “Because we do not know when we will die” as a reminder to hold on to the moments that matter while we still can.

“Cemeteries have an eerie sense of yearning to them, I tend to wonder where the hopes and dreams of all those people went. What if a ghost is nothing but that burning desire refusing to let go? Something deep stirs within me when I think about that.”

Recorded in his home studio with producer and friend Sam Stauff, the track carries an intimate, handcrafted feel—exactly how Mourning Coffee imagined it. The result is a song that invites listeners to pause, reflect, and feel a little deeper. “One Last Time” doesn’t just explore loss; it asks us to consider what remains, and how those remnants shape who we become.
