Sam Varga Shares Brooding New Single “Queen of the Ashes”

Sam Varga is a Nashville-based artist fusing his emo roots with Southern grit and singer-songwriter depth, crafting a sound that lives at the crossroads of alt-country, punk, and raw storytelling. Originally from Louisville, Kentucky, he came up in the city’s DIY emo scene, steeped in basement shows and emotional intensity, while his childhood was soundtracked by ’80s rock, classic lyricists, and Southern staples. That collision of chaos and craft laid the foundation for a style that’s emotionally sharp, self-aware, and unflinchingly human—music that hits like a confessional and comforts like a companion on a lonely drive.

His 2024 debut album Shadow Work marked a striking entry into the emo-tinged edges of country music, where steel guitars meet existential angst. With his latest release “Long Way Back,” Varga deepens that sound, bringing even more grit, urgency, and vulnerability to the mix. Whether he’s exploring heartbreak, identity, or healing, his songs resonate in those raw, reflective moments—after the party, on the road, or somewhere in between.

I had the title for a while and knew exactly who I wanted to write it with. Caroline [Romano] is an outstanding artist, and Spencer [Jordan] has been my best friend since I got to town—he’s the special sauce on so much great music coming out of Nashville and LA.”

Nashville singer-songwriter Sam Varga returns with his fiery new single “Queen of the Ashes,” a brooding, guitar-charged anthem about a woman who torches her world in a blaze of revenge. Co-written with rising pop-rock artist Caroline Romano and longtime collaborator Spencer Jordan, the track captures the allure and destruction of burning everything down just to feel alive again. Produced by Dan Swank (All Time Low, Knox, Taylor Acorn), the song balances Varga’s raw emotional edge with a dark, cinematic intensity that makes it one of his most compelling releases yet.

Following his 2024 debut album Shadow Work and breakout singles “Minute Man” and “Long Way Back,” Varga continues to refine his blend of alt-country grit and indie-rock urgency. Unfiltered, self-aware, and deeply human, his music resonates in the late-night moments when chaos and clarity collide. With “Queen of the Ashes,” Varga cements himself as a voice for those searching for catharsis in the wreckage—turning heartbreak, rage, and vulnerability into something undeniably anthemic.
