Darude Celebrates 25-Year Career With ‘Sandstorm’ Fun-Run Event in Helsinki, Finland
To celebrate Darude’s 25-year legacy, the Darude Sandstorm Run, a six-kilometre music-themed fun run, will take place in Helsinki on Sunday, August 31st, just days before the Finnish leg of his STORM 25 World Tour. More than just a run, the event pays homage to Sandstorm‘s enduring cultural impact by tracing a route through iconic Helsinki locations featured in the original 2000 music video, including Kaivopuisto and the Helsinki Cathedral, where the video’s unforgettable opening scene was filmed. Darude himself will be on-site to cheer on participants as they cross the finish line, making this a one-of-a-kind fan experience.
The route, curated to echo the visual journey of the Sandstorm video—now viewed over 300 million times on YouTube—offers runners a chance to physically engage with one of Finland’s most recognizable pop culture exports. Participants are encouraged to dress up in outfits inspired by the video, with prizes awarded in individual, pair, and team categories. Winners will receive special perks including a meet & greet with Darude, group photos, and tickets to his STORM 25 show at Kattilahalli. Darude will also serve as judge for the costume contest. The event is organized by Finnish fitness company Vauhtisammakko, and early bird tickets (€39) go on sale Friday, May 16 at 8:00 AM CET / 07:00 AM GMT, available until June 30, after which standard pricing (€59) applies.

In 2025, Darude marks this milestone with the STORM 25 World Tour, already drawing massive crowds—including 40,000 fans at New Zealand’s Synthony Festival and sold-out shows in cities like Los Angeles. The tour arrives in Helsinki on Saturday, September 6, but festivities kick off the weekend before with a unique running event that blends music, movement, and celebration—setting the stage for a powerful hometown homecoming.
