Anime Club – Tokyo Ghoul √A
Hello everybody! Sorry for the wait, as we have been making plenty of changes behind the scenes that you will see very soon! Anyway, this week we have the second season of the highly popular horror anime, Tokyo Ghoul √A!

The ghouls of Anteiku invaded the Aogiri’s site in order to rescue Kaneki Ken who is being tortured. Due to provocation, he unleashed greater power enough to defeat Yamori. To become stronger, he decided to join Aogiri and left Anteiku. Ghoul investigators also making their moves by collecting information about the eyepatched ghoul–Kaneki Ken.
I do want to start this review off by saying I don’t normally split reviews for different seasons of the same show, but I had to this time because they were so drastically different. With that preface, lets go ahead and dive into the review! My first impressions of this season is…meh. It takes a very long time to actually start the ball rolling. Pretty much it is just a bunch of characters wallowing in their depression for about seven episodes until they have to defend their lives. That is when the bad ass epicness starts. The fight scenes are insanely crazy, keeping the adrenaline flowing throughout the fight. The animation is also nicely crisp and finished, adding to the beautiful scenes.
While I was rather thrilled with the first season of the series, aptly named Tokyo Ghoul, I was not insanely fond about Tokyo Ghoul √A. What enthralled me the first time around was how Kaneki was trying to maintain his relationships as well as blend into society, but it came across as they threw all of that away this season. This time Kaneki just felt like an empty shell, emotionally and mentally. What drew me to the character after the first season had been taken away. Also, while I understand Anteiku is the center of the second season, I would have liked to dwell on more characters in Aogiri Tree. I actually liked Ayato as an antagonist and would have liked to see more of him.
PROS:
- Crisp and polished animation.
- Decent voice acting.
- Epic fight scenes.
- Blood and Gore!
CONS:
- Focus on Anteiku instead of Kaneki.
- Empty shell.
- Aogiri Tree background.
- Slow pacing.
SCORE: 6.0/10

I haven’t watched Tokyo Ghoul, but yeah the general consensus is that season two isn’t great.
