Under the Electric Sky: EDC 2013 the Experience

Hello everybody! For today’s New Movie Show we have the EDC 2013 film, Under the Electric Sky.

UNDER THE ELECTRIC SKY

STARRING: Calvin Harris, Avicii, Tiesto, Fatboy Slim, Afrojack, Armin van Buuren, Pasquale Rotella, Above & Beyond

DIRECTOR: Dan Cutforth, Jane Lipsitz

GENRE: Musical, Documentary

YEAR: 2014

COUNTRY: United States

Beginning in 1997 with a few thousand revelers in Los Angeles, the Electric Daisy Carnival has become the largest dance music event in North America. Known for its over the top displays of pyrotechnics, world-class artists, costumed theatrical performers, interactive art installations, full scale carnival rides and state-of-the-art lighting and sound production, this year’s festival attracted 345,000 attendees from June 21-23, 2013. Shot in IMAX 3D, the film will follow festivalgoers as they prepare for their journey to EDC Las Vegas and chronicle their unique experience throughout the three-day festival. Behind the scenes footage and interviews with key Insomniac team members will give new audiences the chance to discover what has made the Electric Daisy Carnival a global phenomenon.

I am normally not one for musical documentaries, but Under the Electric Sky is definitely an exception. The biggest plus about the film is obviously its soundtrack. I would watch Under the Electric Sky again just so I can listen to that awesome mix again. It was also interesting to see how much work it takes to put together the Electric Daisy Carnival and the faces behind it. The interviews were interesting and it looked like they were comfortable sitting in front of a camera.

The only thing I didn’t enjoy about the film are the selection in people they chose to pick. While I enjoyed the girl who suffered from social anxiety and the two couples who decided to get married, I thought they were taken away from the group of mid 20 guys. While I understood they were picked, since they were carrying their friend’s jersey to EDC. I think they just portrayed them incorrectly in comparison to everyone else.

PROS:

  •  Soundtrack.
  • Interviews.
  • Cameos.

CONS:

  • Selection of people to follow.
  • Overall structure.

SCORE: 8.5 / 10
