The Lost World: Jurassic Park, San Diego Anyone?

Hello everybody! For this week’s movie club, we have The Lost World: Jurassic Park.

THE LOST WORLD: JURASSIC PARK

JP2

DIRECTED: Steven Spielberg

STARRING: Jeff Goldblum, Julianne Moore, Pete Postlethwaite, Arliss Howard

GENRE: Science Fiction, Adventure

YEAR: 1997

COUNTRY: United States

jp2Four years after the failure of Jurassic Park on Isla Nublar, John Hammond reveals to Ian Malcolm that there was another island (“Site B”) on which dinosaurs were bred before being transported to Isla Nublar. Left alone since the disaster, the dinosaurs have flourished, and Hammond is anxious that the world see them in their “natural” environment before they are exploited.

Alright now it is time for the second film in the Jurassic Park series. I have to say, since I haven’t seen any of the original Jurassic Park films since I was younger, so it was a rather interesting second viewing. While the dinosaurs have lost the awe-inspiring feeling from the original Jurassic Park, they just happen to be created the American way this time around. Everything has to be bigger to be better, and this time it actually shows. I was impressed by the special effects, even if most of them were used in mixture with shots of the rain. It was also nice to see Jeff Goldblum reprising his role, as he was one of few that I actually liked from the original.

The-lost-world-blu-ray-screenshot-2Alright I am going to make this as clear as I can. I almost disliked The Lost World almost as much as Jurassic Park III. So let me put this out there right now, why the hell did they even have to include the third act in San Diego? Leave the dinosaurs on the islands so they don’t appear to be a real and immediate threat to the rest of us. Also, there is absolutely no reason that The Lost World had to be so damn elaborate. Most of the major drawn out scenes have absolutely no majorly drawn out impact to the plot, so why make them all elaborate to begin with. Sometimes filmmakers just irk me the wrong way. BLEH.

PROS:

  • Larger dinosaurs.
  • Better looking special effects.
  • So much rain…
  • Jeff Goldblum.

CONS:

  • Act III
  • San Diego.
  • Elaborate drawn out scenes.

SCORE: 6.0 / 10
